Chess is a two-player strategy board recreation performed on a chessboard, a checkered gameboard with sixty four squares organized in an 8×8 grid.
Play doesn't contain hidden information. Each player begins with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. Each of the six piece sorts moves in a unique way, with probably the most powerful being the queen and the least powerful the pawn. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king by inserting it beneath an inescapable threat of capture. To this finish, a player's items are used to assault and capture the opponent's pieces, whereas supporting one another. During the sport, play typically involves making exchanges of one piece for an opponent's related piece, but in addition finding and engineering alternatives to commerce one piece for 2, or to get a better place. In addition to checkmate, a participant wins the game if the opponent resigns, or (in a timed game) runs out of time. There are also several ways in which a game can end in a draw.
