Martin Luther was a German theologian, professor, and priest born in Eisleben, Saxony in 1483. He was the most important figure in the Protestant Reformation and translated the Bible into the German vernacular (native language is spoken by all of the people)

His famous translation of the Bible had a large effect on Church and German culture. His purpose was to make the Bible accessible to all of the German individuals in the Holy Roman Empire, at that time extending via present-day Germany.

He translated from the Greek language instantly from the Textus Receptus. He did not translate from the Latin Vulgate, the textual content used by the Roman Catholic Church.

The New Testament was printed in 1522 and the whole Bible, together with the New Testament, in 1534.
